Social Studies
Do you know your continents?
North, south, east, west, all around the world
Asia, Africa, North and South America
Australia, Antarctica and Europe too!
It's hard to believe that 9 weeks have already gone by! Here are some of our favorite activities that we did during our first nine weeks as third graders. What was your favorite thing that we did in the last nine weeks? Social StudiesIn social studies we learned about the 7 continents and the 4 major oceans. Students made their own model globe using a balloon. We learned a little song that helped us remember the 7 names of the continents. Continents, Continents Do you know your continents? North, south, east, west, all around the world Asia, Africa, North and South America Australia, Antarctica and Europe too! We will never forget 9/11On September 11, 2001 many people lost their lives. We remember this day and honor those who fight for our freedom. On September 11, 2013, also known as Patriot Day, we wrote letters to police officers and thanked them for their hard work and commitment to protecting others. We made a class quilt in remembrance of all those who lost their lives on that tragic day. ScienceIn science, we learned about matter and how matter changes. For our first science fair project we made ice cream. It was delicious and so fun. MathIn math we learned about many different types of graphs. Do you remember some of them? Who can make a list of all the types of graphs we learned about? In the pictures above, we created pictographs in groups. Students tasted three different types of Hershey's Kisses and had to choose their favorite. They had the choice between dark chocolate, milk chocolate and cookies and cream. Most students in the class chose cookies and cream. It was by far one of the yummiest activities we've done. MultiplicationWe also learned many ways to solve multiplication problems. We made "Batty arrays" to show that we know how to draw an array for a multiplication problem and we used the Commutative Property of Multiplication to show that 3x8=8x3. Remember that the Commutative Property of Multiplication states that when you change the order of the factors, the product stays the same.
